The Tamil Nadu Association of Otorhinolaryngologists (TNAOI) recognizes excellence in academic research, clinical innovation, and scientific presentation through its prestigious Medal Competitions conducted during the Annual State Conference. The competitions are categorized for Consultants and Postgraduate Students, ensuring equal opportunities to showcase their academic work.

 

Medal Categories

A. Consultant Medal Competitions (Podium Presentations)

Consultants may compete in one of the following categories:

2. Professor Dr. S. Gnanathilakan Medal - Head & Neck Surgery & Laryngology

3. Professor Dr. A. Jesudoss Medal - Rhinology

4. Aravindakumar Gold Medal - Head & Neck Surgery

5. Dr. C. Thirumalaivelu Medal - Video Presentation

6. AVVAICON Gold Medal - Skull Base Surgery

 

Eligibility

• Must hold a valid membership in the Tamil Nadu Chapter of AOI (TNAOI).

• Refer to the General Guidelines for additional eligibility criteria.

 

B. Postgraduate Medal Competitions (Podium Presentations)

Postgraduate delegates may compete in one of the following categories:

 

Medal Specialty

1. Professor Dr. S. Kameswaran Medal - Head & Neck Surgery & Laryngology

2. Professor Dr. Muthiah Medal - Rhinology

3. Professor Dr. Sadasivam Medal - Otology

4. SCENT Salem AOI Medal - Paediatric ENT

 

Eligibility

• Must be pursuing MS (ENT), DNB (ENT), or DLO in an institution affiliated with the Tamil Nadu & Puducherry State Branch of AOI.

• Must hold a valid membership in the Tamil Nadu Chapter of AOI.

C. Poster Presentation Competition (Postgraduates Only)

Eligibility

• Open only to postgraduate students pursuing ENT training in Tamil Nadu & Puducherry.

• Membership in the Tamil Nadu Chapter of AOI is mandatory.

D. Quiz Competition

Eligibility

• Open only to postgraduate students pursuing MS (ENT), DNB (ENT), or DLO in Tamil Nadu & Puducherry.

General Eligibility

All participants must:

• Be registered delegates of the Annual TNAOI State Conference.

• Mention their conference registration number during submission.

• Hold valid membership in the Tamil Nadu Chapter of AOI.

• Postgraduate participants must be undergoing training in an institution affiliated with the Tamil Nadu & Puducherry State Branch of AOI.

• ENT surgeons holding administrative posts are not eligible to compete for medal categories.

 

Competition Guidelines

 

Podium Presentation

Consultants

• Only one medal category may be selected.

• Only one abstract may be submitted.

• Presentation Time:

  • 7 minutes presentation

  • 2 minutes discussion

  • Total: 9 minutes

 

Postgraduates

• Only one medal category may be selected.

• Only one abstract may be submitted.

• Presentation Time:

  • 5 minutes presentation

  • Additional questions may be asked by the judges.

 

Poster Presentation

• Open only to postgraduate delegates.

• Only one poster per participant.

• Presentation Duration: 3 minutes.

 

Poster Preparation

• Use the official conference PowerPoint template.

• Include:

  • Title

  • Author(s)

  • Introduction

  • Methods

  • Results

  • Conclusion

• Charts, graphs, photographs, and illustrations are encouraged.

• Videos are not permitted.

 

Video Presentation

• Open under the Consultant Medal category.

• Topic may relate to any aspect of Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery.

• Duration: Maximum 5 minutes

• Accepted formats:

  • MPEG-3

  • MPEG-4

  • AVI

• Recommended minimum resolution: 1080p (Full HD)

 

Abstract Submission Guidelines

All abstracts must:

• Be submitted within the notified deadline.

• Be written in English.

• Not exceed 250 words.

• Be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (.doc/.docx).

• Use:

  • Font: Times New Roman

  • Font Size: 12 pt

  • Line Spacing: 1.5

Quiz Competition Guidelines

• Open only to postgraduate students (MS ENT / DNB ENT / DLO).

• Each team shall consist of two participants.

• Participants must submit a Bonafide Certificate, duly attested by the Head of the Department.

• The format and conduct of the quiz will be decided by the Organizing Committee.

 

Submission & Ethical Guidelines

• All abstracts and supporting documents must be submitted through the official conference portal.

• Presentations must not contain:

  • Institutional identity

  • Department logos

  • Acknowledgements

  • Sponsor recognition

  • Conflict of interest statements that may reveal the presenter or institution during judging

• Failure to comply may result in disqualification or rejection.

• The decision of the Organizing Committee and Judges shall be final and binding.

 

Important Notes

• Consultants are permitted to submit only one podium presentation in their chosen specialty medal category. However, they may also submit one Video Presentation for the C. Thirumalaivelu Medal, which will be evaluated as a separate competition.

• Postgraduate delegates may submit only one podium presentation in their chosen Postgraduate Medal category. However, they may also submit one Poster Presentation for the Dr. C. N. Raja Medal, which will be judged as a separate competition.

• Abstract submission is mandatory for all presentation categories.

• Submission deadlines announced by the Organizing Committee must be strictly followed.

• Participants are advised to carefully read all conference instructions before submission.

• The decision of the Scientific Committee and the Panel of Judges regarding eligibility, evaluation, selection, and awards shall be final and binding. No requests for review, reconsideration, or correspondence will be entertained.
